                                    February 2012

Thank you for keeping up with the spelling words and the baggy books.  These are skill-building activities and can be very enriching.

In religion we are learning that when we disobey God and choose to do wrong, we commit a sin.  If we are truly sorry, God will show us mercy, or great kindness.  He will always give us a second chance.

We have been learning about The Kingdom of God, as well.  We are preparing a play using the parable of the rich man planning a party.

We will also learn that signs of God’s love are all around us.  The sacraments are very special signs.

Our science has been “Science in the Toy Box.”  We have studied the forces of push and pull.  We experimented with air, gravity, wheels, water, etc. as we made toys.

In Math we are REALLY concentrating on coins and values!  Practice pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters with your first grader.  We are COUNTING change, too.  Whew!  We will also continue problem solving, graphing, application to real life situations,  placement, digits, adding and subtracting one more and ten more, and grouping.  YIKES.

Our Valentine’s Day party will be  Tuesday  the 14th  in the afternoon.  It works out best if the Valentine cards are passed out a day or BEFORE the party day.  That day is SO busy!  We’ll have bags made to hold the cards and your child will have opportunities to “deliver” their cards in the mornings.
